Alex Smolen

I am a security-focused software engineering manager. I care about usable security, privacy by design, smooth music, and fresh coffee.

I currently work at LaunchDarkly as the Director of Security.

Previously:

  • I was the Engineering Manager for the Infrastructure and Security teams at Clever.
  • I "defended the bird" as the technical lead for the Account Security team at Twitter.
  • I was a security consultant at Foundstone, where people paid me to break into websites and buildings.
  • I received my BS in Computer Science from UC Berkeley, and liked Cal so much that I went back to the School of Information for my Masters.
